Parent Education
One of the core beliefs at Rose Scharlin is the involvement and education of our Member parents. We believe that we are all part of the Rose Scharlin community and choosing to work together to help our children learn, grow and develop. Because of this, we provide monthly required Parent Education classes to all of our Member families. We choose instructors that believe in progressive parenting approaches but try to provide variety so our families can hear from many voices. Echo Parenting & Education in Echo Park is our primary resource for parent education. mediation, counseling, staff professional development and other services relating to child and family emotional health. Member parents attend Parent Education sessions during monthly General Membership Meetings.

Ruth Beaglehole
Ruth Beaglehole
For over 50 years, Ruth Beaglehole has been a leading voice in the call to end the violence and oppression of younger human beings. In 1999, guided by her conviction that physical and emotional punishment are violations of fundamental human rights, Ruth founded the Center for Nonviolent Education and Parenting, a nonprofit that held an uncompromising vision of what it means to love children well. For Ruth, parenting with nonviolence was a social justice imperative: teaching adults to treat children with the respect and dignity they deserve was a way to change the “power-over” paradigm.
Dr. Bethany Cook
Dr. Bethany Cook
Cook has worked for over 10 years in Los Angeles area schools. She is passionate about sharing the principles of sensory regulation that inform early childhood development, both typical and atypical. Over the many changes in the school system (and in life!) over the past two years, Cook was inspired to begin working directly with private clients. She believes in the importance of understanding sensory processing and regulation to support resilient kids, and I can't wait to learn more from her and about her work tonight!
